What is Labiaplasty
(Vaginal Rejuvenation)?

Labial hypertrophy, or an enlarged labia, can cause embarrassment or be a source of physical annoyance. These intimate areas may change over the years, especially with pregnancy and childbirth.

Some women notice excess skin has developed along their labia minora (inner lips of the vagina) and hangs beyond the labia majora (outer lips of the vagina). Those with large or drooping labia experience discomfort while walking, wearing certain types of clothing, or playing sports.

Others complain of discomfort during sexual activities and are uncomfortable being seen in a bathing suit or during an intimate moment. A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that treats the external appearance and function of a woman’s labia, the skin flap surrounding your vagina.

For the best options in labiaplasty New Jersey patients swear by Dr. Alexis Parcells and her world-class results. As a female plastic surgeon, she specializes in labiaplasty, and many patients feel comfortable trusting her with their concerns. This procedure is growing in popularity and women who have it done often comment they wish they had it done sooner.

How Is Labiaplasty Surgery Done?

In New Jersey labiaplasty surgery is usually done in an outpatient surgical center utilizing general anesthesia. The procedure usually takes about an hour to complete.
A numbing medication (local anesthesia) is given to reduce associated discomfort and so you are able to go home the same day. All stitches are dissolvable and do not need to be removed in the office. Scars are camouflaged and hard to notice once you are completely healed.

What Part of the Labia Is Addressed With Surgery?

A labiaplasty procedure addresses both the inner labia (labia minora), the outer labia (labia majora), the clitoral hood, or a combination of these areas.

For women with uneven or thick labia, a labiaplasty will result in a more symmetric and slimming appearance. This type of vaginal rejuvenation is tailored specifically toward your individual anatomy and your concerns.

Will This Procedure Affect My Sexual Activities?

USUALLY NOT.

Because it is mostly a reduction in skin and around the clitoral hood, labiaplasty surgery will not affect sensation or result in pain during sexual intercourse. The female erogenous zones remain preserved and are not addressed during this procedure.

Labiaplasty Recovery

Recovery from labiaplasty is usually quick and tolerable.

Any swelling is usually resolved in about two weeks after surgery. Most patients return to work a few days after surgery and can resume normal activities by 2 weeks. You should be back exercising by 4 weeks, and you can resume sexual activity by 6 weeks.

How Much Does a Labiaplasty Cost?

Each patient is different and your needs are unique. The cost of this procedure will depend on the conversation between you and Dr. Parcells during your one-on-one consultation. After reviewing your medical history and discussing your desired goals, Dr. Parcells will perform a physical exam to evaluate your area of concern. She will then provide her expert advice and discuss your options to achieve your desired outcome. She will also address all risks and benefits of the procedures you are interested in.

At the end of your consultation with Dr. Parcells, you will meet with our surgical coordinator who will address the logistics and finances of the procedure you are best suited for. If interested in scheduling a consultation, please contact our office.
