Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure that can restore sagging breasts into a natural breast shape and youthful position. A breast lift often requires the removal of the excess breast skin and redundant breast tissue. Additionally, a breast lift may be combined with a breast augmentation (breast implant surgery) for additional volume and to create a perkier appearance.

What is Breast Lift?

Many women experience the descent and deflation of their natural breasts with aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and changes in weight.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure that can restore sagging breasts into a natural breast shape and youthful position. A breast lift often requires the removal of the excess breast skin and redundant breast tissue. As a Top Female Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Parcells is distinctively qualified to address your concerns and tailor her technique to achieve your desired results. Her goal is that you receive the very best breast lift New Jersey has to offer. This procedure is very popular, and our breast lift patients are some of the happiest patients in our practice.

What are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

Over time, our breasts droop and sag because of the effects of time and gravity. A breast lift can restore the breasts and nipples to their ideal anatomic position. Other benefits of having a breast lift include:

  • Correction of breast asymmetry
  • Increased breast volume
  • The restored appearance of the nipples and areolas
  • Desired lift in clothing and bathing suit tops
  • Improved cleavage
  • Firm and perky breasts
  • Enhanced, contoured chest

Since changes in the breast come about because of aging and skin stretching, exercise and undergarments can’t reverse the effects of time. A breast lift can achieve the natural-looking and lifted appearance of youth.

For example, one patient scheduled a consultation with Dr. Parcells after having lost weight. She had significant breast deflation due to her weight loss. The woman underwent a combination of augmentation (with smooth round silicone gel) and mastopexy to achieve a youthful and attractive C cup breast.

Breastfeeding After A Breast Lift

Most women are still able to breastfeed after having a breast lift, although there can be changes in the amount of milk produced. If you plan to have more children, it is best to discuss your goals with Dr. Parcells during your consultation.

Breast Lift Candidates

When you look in the mirror without a shirt or bra, how do you feel about the appearance of your breast? Do your breasts:

  • Look uneven? Does one look larger than the other?
  • Have two different shapes?
  • Seem oblong or have an odd shape?
  • Feature large areolas, or do your areolas seem oddly placed?
  • Look flat?
  • Feature nipples that point down?

If you’re not happy with what you see, you may want to make an appointment with Dr. Parcells to find out what breast procedure will give you the look you want.

Breast Lift Surgery

On average, breast lift surgery can take 3-4 hours and requires general anesthesia.

A numbing agent is injected into the area, which helps minimize or eliminate pain for several hours after surgery and allows you to go home the same day.

Most women describe mild discomfort for several days following surgery but are back to their daily activities about 3-5 days later. Most New Jersey breast lift patients return to work within a week. Patients who receive breast implants along with a breast lift will need to wear a special bra to assist in shaping for several weeks after the procedure.

Breast Lift Incision Options

The traditional pattern, or circumvertical method, includes an incision around the areola and down to the bottom of the breast in a lollipop pattern.

Similar to the traditional pattern, the periareolar method includes an incision around the areola. However, this method does not include an additional incision. Instead, a circular area of skin is removed, and the areola is reattached to the remaining skin.

Your breast lift may require more incisions or large incisions. This depends on the shape and size of your breast and your desired breast goals. If this is true for you, Dr. Parcells will explain the need for lengthier or larger incision areas during your breast lift consultation.

Breast Lift Scars

Dr. Parcells’ goal is to make as few incisions as possible to help with minimal breast lift scarring.

For women who need a more significant lift, the circumvertical method scarring may extend under the breast and resemble the shape of an anchor. With the periareolar method, less scarring is noticeable due to the majority of the incision being located around the areola – the scarring is virtually unnoticeable next to the darker edge of the areola. No matter the method Dr. Parcells will need to use to conduct your procedure, your breast lift scars will heal well and blend into the skin after a few months.

Breast Lift Recovery

After your breast lift procedure, you will be dressed in a surgical wrap. This will need to stay on until you see Dr. Parcells the following day.

During your follow-up visit, Dr. Parcells will remove the surgical dressing but leave the waterproof tape on the incisions. You’ll be expected to put on a wireless sports bra after your surgical wrap is removed. Wear the sports bra at all times over the next several weeks, only taking it off to bathe.

Every patient’s tolerance for pain is different; however, some women express not having much pain after surgery. Some women experience pain for a few days following the breast lift. You will be prescribed medication to help with the pain. Take it as prescribed. Many patients can shower and even drive as early as one day after their breast lift.

It is also possible to feel discomfort after your breast lift procedure, but the discomfort decreases over time. You may experience tightness in your chest, bruising, and swelling during your recovery. Some women may experience changes to the sensation of their breasts after surgery. Lastly, avoid extensive activity for at least a month, including exercising and sports, reaching, most household chores like vacuuming, and lifting.

What is the Cost of a Breast Lift?

Every Woman Is Different And Has Unique Needs.

After a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Parcells, a customized surgical plan will be proposed.

During the initial consultation, Dr. Parcells will thoroughly review your medical history and discuss your concerns and desired outcome. She will then perform a detailed physical examination, including an evaluation of your breast skin, laxity, and nipple position. At the consultation, Dr. Parcells will also extend her expert advice, review the options for achieving the desired outcome, and will review the risks, benefits, and alternatives of the proposed procedure.

The final step of the consultation is to meet with our patient care coordinator who will guide you through the process of scheduling and arriving at your surgery. The coordinator will discuss your breast lift cost, which is an individualized quote for your breast lift (mastopexy), as well as address the logistics of your procedure. Not all cosmetic procedures are covered by insurance; Parcells Plastic Surgery partners with CareCredit to help you financially achieve your aesthetic goals today

Breast Lift FAQs

You’ll notice your breast lift results right away and will continue to see more amazing results in the forthcoming weeks of healing. Your breast lift can last for years if you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining your weight goes a long way in making your results last.
Breast implants are traditionally used to increase breast volume, but they do not generally address sagging breasts. A breast lift addresses lifting the breast to help reshape the breasts, as well as get rid of excess skin. In women with a small amount of ptosis (breast droopiness), an implant can lift a breast and nipple slightly. Those with moderate to severe deflation and sagging breasts may require a combination of a breast implant and a breast lift at the same time.
Yes, a breast lift can be done without any other procedure. To understand the surgical procedure that will give you the breast results you are looking for, schedule a consultation with Dr. Parcells today.
A Mommy Makeover is a combination of a breast procedure with a Tummy Tuck. Most women who have children will have both a separation of their abdominal muscles, as well as laxity in their abdominal skin.
Unfortunately, the short answer is no. Breast descent, or ptosis, is typically caused by skin laxity due to a combination of factors, which may include weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the effects of aging over time. Only breast lift surgery can eliminate excessive breast skin and reshape the breasts into a more youthful appearance.
Women can get a breast lift as early as 18 years old. It is recommended to wait until your breasts have fully developed. For some, that age may be 16 or 17. Women may get breast lifts into their 50s and even older. If you are as young as 18 or over 50 years old, having a consultation at Parcells Plastic Surgery to review your health and breast goals will help determine if a breast lift is right for you.
